Book Review of Basics of Paint Technology Part I
It is with delight that I am writing this review for the Book, “Basics of Paint Technology Part I” authored by Prof. V.C. Malshe and Ms. Meenal Sikchi. Reading through evoked a feeling in me of being a student of paint technology in the late 1980’s The book through its shear technical depth and accuracy has emerged as a new normal in this subject and for people inclined to take up paints and coatings as a profession, besides being a source for fueling new ideas from refreshing basics.
The new chapters on water borne coatings, cross linking agents for epoxies, substitutes for Titanium Dioxide and polymer architecture bring present content to fore and what the industry would look for, when formulating new products or upgrading them to consumers. The book emerges as a forever companion to clarify understanding and basics in raw material selection, when formulating paint and polymer compositions. In-depth coverage on thickeners, a range of crosslinking agents for epoxies, their functionalities and end properties have been succinctly articulated.
Surrogate methods to achieve hiding for the ever expensive and inevitable Titanium Dioxide is refreshing and kindles new ideas. The coverage on polymers is exhaustive and comprehensive and leaves no stone unturned to formulate paints and coatings, polymers, inks, thinners, varnishes for every substrate application, as applicable. I am expressing sincere gratitude to the authors and want to thank them for their untiring dedication and passion for bringing out this edition and kindling interest in the subject of paints and polymers for present and future generations.
Annual Visiting Fellowship Lecture at ICT
Very honored to have delivered the Sauradip Chemical industries annual visiting fellowship lecture at ICT on "Front Footing Innovation in Paints and Coatings- An India Perspective".
Was privileged to have the presence of Dr. Kishore Shah, my alma mater, attending the lecture throughout. His energy and enthusiasm was inspiring.
Entrepreneurs like Dr. Shah, continue to inspire developing series of chemicals including surfactants, deformers, special additives, fine chemicals, drug and drug intermediates, pigments and many more. Developing and promoting technology locally against top notch MNC's calls for different level of audacity, courage and the ability to find solutions. A lifetime of a contribution to the industry, truly befitting what the great institution
